What is roof waterproofing?

Different parts of a property can benefit from waterproofing in Singapore. The walls, floors, and even the roof of the structure all require waterproofing. Although water might look harmless, you will be surprised how it can slowly ruin a property through seeping and leakage.

Since our roof is shielding us from heavy rains and storms, it should be expected that it will need a good waterproofing. We are not new to the sight of buckets being placed inside the house to collect rainwater leaking from the roof. To prevent such occurrences, roof waterproofing in Singapore is crucial.

Why is roof waterproofing important?

Our roofs protect us from harsh weather conditions. It is only fitting that it receives protection too. Unless we like the idea of replacing our roofs every time it rusts and leaks roof waterproofing is important.

How is roof waterproofing done?

Roof waterproofing in Singapore involves placing a number of different layers atop your roof to make it waterproof. Below are the most common layers being applied in a roof waterproofing process:

Base Sheet

The base sheet is a fibreglass material that is often placed atop the roof as a primary waterproofing layer. Since it is made with a waterproof material (fibreglass), it is a perfect material to sit at the deepest layer of the waterproofing procedure.

Underlays

Underlays are placed on top of the base sheet. These waterproofing materials are made from modified bitumen and are attached to the base sheet using hot asphalt. It serves as a cover for the base sheet and the roofing material.

Flasher

Flashers are additional waterproof material which can be found on the sides of the roof, the top of the chimneys, and other slopes. The main purpose of flashers is to guide the rainwater away from the roof and other places where it can cause damages.

Gutters

We are all familiar with the gutters. Gutters are another waterproofing solution which collects rainwater on the edges of the roof and guides it down to a single pipe.
