Since I was in college, I have been dreaming of having my own house with the home interior design that I really love. I have been browsing the internet and architectural and home interior design magazines in Singapore for inspiration. I have finally decided to have an industrial and rustic home interior look.

After years of hard work, I purchased a small house suitable for me. I finally decided to achieve the home interior that I badly wanted for the longest time! Here is my journey to turning my house into an industrial loft style.

Setting the Budget

What makes home renovation much harder than buying a house is setting up the budget. People can narrow down their home selection by considering their budget.

However, in the renovation, budgeting takes a lot of time. The cost estimation of all the materials you need, the manpower, and facility repair is difficult to handle.

Since I don't have any idea how to calculate those, I asked for help from my contractor. They helped me canvass the price for concrete cement, wall insulation, a new electrical system and so on.

A loft home interior is into more space and fewer walls, so it really saved my budget, knowing I don't have to tear down and rebuild any of those.

Get Interior Designers

Some homeowners do not hire interior designers, thinking it is an additional cost. It is up to you if you want to hire one, but if you can design your home by yourself, there is nothing really wrong.

I considered many factors when hiring interior designers. First, they are the experts, and I don't trust my eye for the arts at all. Lastly, they have more connections and network when it comes to home furniture and decor resources than me. Their network can provide me with better options for furniture, decor etc., when it comes to price, quality and design.

Getting interior designers comes with a price, but if you have the talent and eyes for arts and designing, I recommend designing your own space, too. I want to give credit to my interior designer, who was very open with my ideas. I literally was able to put my personal touch and ideas into the design.

Choosing The Look and Design

There are lots of home interior designs in Singapore, but I decided to go for an industrial and rustic look. My interior designer helped with the planning and execution of the home interior design I have chosen.

We planned on the functionality and accessibility by creating a floorplan. We decided on the ideal spaces for furniture, scales and measurement and other stuff.

After planning the space of my loft, we also tackled the literal look of the entire house. She showed me a portfolio of all industrial home interior design for examples and discussed how to add and translate the features that I liked into my own home. We also considered my budget in executing those features.

Considering the Lifestyle

A part of the space and home interior design planning is considering whether it will suit my lifestyle today and in the future.

The initial design of my house has only one bedroom- technically the loft part. This kind of home interior design in Singapore is fit for single or couple occupants. It is really suitable for me since I will only live here alone once it is done.

However, this can be a problem if I decided to start a family. The house cannot accommodate more than two people, including kids, for a long time.

Having pets is also a consideration. Although I have cats, this design seemed to work with them fine.

Choosing The Colour Theme

One of the most exciting parts of designing your home is coming up with a colour theme. I wanted to have a cobalt blue and copper look. Since I was aiming for an industrial style, using copper or copper-coloured furniture and fabric really gives a rustic look into my home interior.

The intense cobalt blue colour, on the other hand, balances the redness of the copper. We also decided to have walls unpainted to keep their greyish, cement look to contrast the blue and the copper.

Choosing The Furniture

Most of the industrial home interior design in Singapore uses metalwares for home decors and furniture.

Like I said earlier, interior designers have connections with furniture providers. My interior designer has shown me collections of similar decors and even introduced me to local metalware artisans and craftsmen.

It provided me with lots of options for cheaper but stylish furniture.

It is a dream come true for many people to buy their own homes. My dream is to have my ideal home interior. It is a stressful and expensive phase of my life, but it is all worth it.
